The Great Organ

Cavaillé-Coll

"Alleluia! Praise God in his temple on earth, praise him in his temple in heaven, praise him for his mighty achievements, praise him for his transcendent greatness! " Psaume 150

The great organ, placed over the western entrance doors to the church, was one of the last masterpieces of Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, and remains world-famous today. It was inaugurated in 1889. It has 54 stops, 3 keyboards, and a pedal board. The organ represents an apogee of the art of French symphonic organ-making.

« Alleluia! Praise God in his temple on earth, praise him in his temple in heaven, praise him for his mighty achievements, praise him for his transcendent greatness!

Praise him with blasts of the trumpet, praise him with lyre and harp, praise him with drums and dancing, praise him with strings and reeds, praise him with clashing cymbals, praise him with clanging cymbals!

Let everything that breathes praise Yahweh! Alleluia!  » Psaume 150
